Buffybot & Cordy
INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTIAN KANE
by
Francesca (Buffybot), Silvia (Cordy), Anna, Maria and Samantha (Spuffy)
– June 7th, 2007
This interview is an
EXCLUSIVE OF EVIL HAND ISSUES.
It's STRICTLY forbbidden to use and the reproduction on other sites,
blogs, mailing lists, etc...
Francesca (Milan):
Imagine you’ve been given the lead role in a movie (the genre doesn’t
matter) and the director tells you that the choice of the female partner
is yours. Who would you choose and why? (You have a very big choice:
very famous actresses, less famous actresses, younger actresses, older
actresses, actresses you’ve already worked with, actresses you’ve never
worked with, and so on…)
Christian:
Brittany Murphy would be an obvious choice since I have worked with her
twice before and we have great chemistry and I know what she is capable
of doing, but I would also like to do some work with Natalie Portman… I
just think she is an amazing talent and not too hard on the eyes
either….
Francesca (Milan):
When you receive and read
a script, what is the thing that makes you go for it, that makes you
think “That’s the role for me, I want to audition for it”?
Christian:
When I was younger I felt comfortable with characters
I knew, but as I get a little older I’m enjoying characters I have to
get to know.
Silvia (Rome): How much are you
jealous (in general) and what’s the thing you’re most jealous of?
Christian:
Everyone has a little bit in them but it is such a wasted emotion…
Silvia (Rome): What’s the most
beautiful memory you have of when you were a kid?
Christian:
Too many but Friday night football games in front of the whole town,
watching you, is something I’ll never forget…
Anna (Naples): You have played
many different characters, ranging over different kind of genres,
showing your versatility as a thespian. Is there a role, though, you'd
like to play, a "dream" role? Among the movies that have recently come
out in theatres is there any you'd have loved to be in? If so, why?
Christian:
I would have love to have been in one of the X-men films… I would make a
great Gambit.
Anna
(Naples): This is a question
about Angel The Series and specifically about its finale: what did you
think of Lindsey's demise. Didn't you find it a bit anticlimatic that it
was Lorne who killed Lindsey rather than Angel?
Christian:
Yes, I hated that.. I think he should have been there for the final
fight. But Joss was hell bent on killing me and I have to trust him, he
has the visions of where he wanted his characters to end up...
Maria (Taranto): Charisma,
David, Glenn Quinn and you were the only actors whose characters have
been on Angel ever since the very first episode. Andy Hallett has been a
recurring on the show, ever since the beginning of the second season.
Yet you have never been in the credits as a regular and Andy became one
only later in the fourth season. What do you think of the fact that
James Marsters became a regular right away and so did Mercedes McNab?
Yes, it was the actor (Marsters) who brought fans to the show and the
beautiful girl who could appeal at male fans of the show, but what's
your opinion of a show business where this kind of logic is followed? If
I can be mean: why during Angel's 100th episode party James Marsters was
under the spotlight whereas you, who have been on the show ever since
the pilot episode, weren't?
Christian:
I think Joss wanted to keep Lindsey undercover, He had just come back to
the show.. We knew where the character was heading and I wouldn’t have
been able to talk much anyway about the character at that time so we
opted to keep interviews and talks to a minimum… I felt like maybe I was
a secret weapon for the show, it was a good feeling.
Maria (Taranto): One of
Lindsey's talents as a villain was his ability to manipulate other
people. I think, for example, of Sanctuary where he's able with his
words to manipulate Kate (sorry, I love Elisabeth Rohm, she's my
favourite actress!:), a talent, which is peculiar of lawyers. On the
other hand, though, Lindsey is manipulated by Wolfram & Hart. Also,
Lindsey strikes at the heart of his enemies but he's struck and
heartbroken by Darla. Do you believe that, this kind of cyclycity is
something which is part of the universe created by Joss Whedon,
especially during Angel the Series' earlier seasons, or do you think
it's something that is part of our lives? In Italy we talk of: "law for
retaliation" a kind of "what goes around comes around"... what do you
think about it?
Christian:
I think Joss takes everybody on a
terrific journey and he leads you into many different realms but at the
end of the day it is for the viewer to decide the lesson…
Samantha (L'Aquila): When did
you realize you were an artist?
Christian:
I did a play in college and had a bit role in a 3 hour long production…
My part took all of 2 min. but every night Fri. Sat and Sun. instead of
hanging with the boys I was there for my 2 minutes and I loved it.. I
knew I had to get to LA because there was nothing else I wanted to do…
Samantha
(L'Aquila): Are you restrained
or exhibitionist?
Christian:
Depends on the situation…. But I am very private with my life…
