Buzz Boy: Chris Kane's life,
or something like it
By Lauren Weedon
Actor/singer Christian Kane may play Angelina Jolie's shallow, egotistical fiancé in Life, or Something Like It, but he's really a guy who enjoys the simple pleasures. In fact, if the 27-year old had only one week to live, as the premise of the movie goes, he would commune with nature. "I'd live underneath the stars for awhile, maybe out by the Grand Canyon," Christian reveals. "Just live off the land and be as close to God as you can." That's not to say the sensitive stud doesn't have an adventurous streak. "Maybe on the last day, do a little base jumping off the canyon without a parachute. One last hurrah. One last ho-hah!"
What do you expect from a guy who grew up in Norman, OK, with "a bunch of wrestlers and bad boys?" When he was 17, Christian was "rambunctious. I was probably all anyone could handle," he laughs. "We were a wild bunch, me and the boys. We got into our fair share of trouble. I was very much a rebel."
Of course, Kane's on the straight and narrow now. Ha! "I sing in a country rock band," he says with a wink. The group, called Kane, plays gigs in L.A. and is currently shopping for a record deal in Nashville. He describes the sound as "Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers meets Garth Brooks." Music is truly Christian's first love. "There's nothing like getting up on stage and having the immediate feedback hit you in the face."
His acting career may be giving him whiplash as well. Kane started out in the TV series Fame L.A. about five years ago. Pretty soon, he was guest starring on Angel and Dawson's Creek. After last year's Summer Catch with Freddie Prinze Jr., he was offered the role in Life. "It was unbelievable for me to work with a caliber of an actress like Angie. It's a blessing. She's one of the greats -- and she's very personable, nice and extremely talented."
Up next, the romantic comedy, Just Married, with Brittany Murphy and Ashton Kutcher. In the meantime, Christian enjoys hosting barbecues at his house with musician friends and working the grill. "We'll just start singing, with eight guitars playing in the background, eating hamburgers," he says. "That's me, man. It's very relaxing -- and cleanses your soul!"
